David Harold Nystrom, age 82 of Prior Lake, passed away on June 8, 2025.
Born in Minneapolis on January 4, 1943 to Harold and Eleanor (Smith) Nystrom. Dave grew up in “Nordeast” Minneapolis and graduated from Edison High School in 1961. He was a proud Navy Veteran who served during Vietnam aboard the USS BonHomme Richard as a Boatswain mate.
Dave married Mary Simoneau in 1963 and to them were born two children, Bret and Desiree. He met Anita Kae Malm in Denver, CO in the spring of 1975 and they were married on January 17, 1976 in Flasher, ND.
While in high school, he started his career in the food service industry at Applebaum’s Grocery Store and then went on to have a long sales career in the food service and commercial china industries.
Dave enjoyed a donut in the morning, projects or a boat ride in the afternoon, and a Windsor Coke in the evening (aka “Toddy Time”). . . just don’t ask him to play a game. His yard was perfectly cared for, everything has its place, and words have meaning. His advice to living a good life was “don’t lie, do good, and be trustworthy.” Most importantly, he always made sure to tell his family how proud he was of them and how much they were loved. You didn’t hang up the phone or walk out the door without hearing, “Be good. Be safe. You are loved.”
Dave is survived by loving wife of 49 years, Nita; children; Bret (Tawny) Nystrom, Desi Nystrom, Mesa (Jason) MacDonald and Reed (Vicki) Nystrom; grandchildren, Megan (Anders) Daniel, Brittany Nystrom (Matt Feinberg) and Haley Nystrom (Rob Woodruff); Vaughn and Calvin MacDonald; Evelyn, Sophia, and Theodore Nystrom; great-granddaughter, Addi Daniel; family and friends.
The family wishes to extend their extreme gratitude to Grace Hospice and a special thank you to his primary care team, Carolyn, Kacey, and Hellene, as well as the rest of the staff that shared this journey.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 12 at Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 9947 Lyndale Ave. S., Bloomington and one hour prior to service at church. His funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, June 13 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4100 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis.
